Brush fire blackens San José hillside, threatens homes
On Saturday, June 12, 2012, at approximately 1:20 PM, San José Firefighters responded to a vegetation fire in the area of Highway 87 and Sands Drive.
The first units to arrive on scene worked quickly to establish structure protection at the top of a steep hill leading to the highway below. As the fire advanced south, pushed by 25 mile-per-hour wind gusts, a second alarm was struck that included a request for assistance from a water dropping CAL FIRE helicopter.
Crews were able to prevent the fire from damaging any homes in the area while containing the fire to just under nine acres. Are you a member of the fire service?
