Blaze destroys San José apartments, injures firefighter
Units of the San Jose Fire Department, assisted by the Santa Clara County Fire Department and the City of Santa Clara Fire Department, battled a stubborn four-alarm blaze that swept through a two-story apartment building at 1665 Brookvale Drive in west San José.
The first unit to arrive on scene reported juniper bushes burning on the exterior of the building with extension to the structure. A second-alarm was immediately transmitted for fire sweeping the attic.
Heavy fire conditions forced San Jose Fire Battalion Chief Gary Weekley to transition to a defensive operation. With several hand lines stretched and working, two aerial master streams were also deployed. The fire was contained in just under two hours with between six and nine units suffering damage.
One San Jose Firefighter suffered a minor injury and was transported to a local hospital. There were no additional reports of injuries, but a number of residents were displaced requiring assistance from the Red Cross. Are you a member of the fire service?
