Two-alarm fire destroys powersports repair shop
On Sunday, October 26, 2014, at 5:07 p.m., the San José Fire Department responded to multiple reports of a commercial structure fire at GP Sports, a dealer selling and servicing motorcycles, watercraft and ATVs, located at 15050 Camden Avenue.
While en route the company officer of Engine 9 reported smoke showing from the area. Upon the arrival of the first due engine company a preliminary size-up was completed and a second-alarm struck for heavy smoke and fire inside a repair shop located adjacent to the main dealership showroom.
Making access to the interior of the structure was hampered by barred windows requiring crews to soften-up the building. While operations to access the interior of the structure were underway firefighters were forced to secure a water supply from the nearest fire hydrant approximately 1,000 away.
While firefighters were able to salvage 12 vehicles, approximately 70 others were destroyed along with the majority of the structure.
There were no injuries reported and the fire was declared under control after about 90-minutes.ASSIGNMENT:
