Firefighters Contain Vegetation Fire in East San Jose

On Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 3:05 PM, units of the San Jose Fire Department, assisted by resources from CAL FIRE, including two air tankers, one helicopter, and one hand crew, responded to reports of a vegetation fire in the area of 3500 Clayton Road in the hills of east San Jose.

Arriving units reported fire burning through light flashy fuels with a moderate rate of spread and moving up slope toward numerous homes. San Jose Fire crews were immediately deployed to structure protection assignments while additional crews began working on containment of the fire from both flanks.

CAL FIRE air resources were able to provide pinpoint retardant and water drops to assist ground crews. The rapid response from both San Jose Fire and CAL FIRE prevented the blaze from damaging any structures and limited the spread of the fire to just under eight acres.
