South Bay Fire Fighters battle Communications Hill blaze
On Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at 2:17 PM, units of the San José Fire Department, assisted by CAL FIRE, the Santa Clara County Fire Department, and the South Santa Clara County Fire District worked for several hours to control a 15-acre fire that consumed vegetation and threatened several homes.
Firefighters were faced with difficult conditions as dry grass and brush fed flames that were fanned by gusty winds in steep terrain.
A large column of smoke could be seen from all over the South Bay as approximately 100 firefighters worked to protect hillside homes from the advancing blaze.
Thanks to the rapid response of San Jose Firefighters, assisted by mutual aid resources, there were no homes lost or damaged by the fire. Are you a member of the fire service?
