Three-alarm blaze leaves two dead in San Jose
On Monday, April 15, 2013, at 8:36 PM, units of the San Jose Fire Department responded to multiple reports of a residential structure fire at 949 South Daniel Way near Moorpark Avenue and Highway 17.
First due Engine 10 arrived on the scene within minutes of the dispatch and confirmed a working fire with heavy smoke and flames showing from the front of a single story home. A second-alarm was immediately struck due to the rapid spread of the fire and the possibility that occupants might be trapped in the residence
Firefighters quickly stretched attack lines into place and entered the home to locate possible victims and contain the blaze. While conducting a primary search one victim, an elderly female, was discovered and removed from the rear of the home. Despite their best efforts the woman did not respond to CPR and was pronounced dead at the scene.
As the fire continued to consume the home a third-alarm was called summoning additional resources to the scene due to high winds that threatened to spread the fire to neighboring homes. Firefighters were able to knock down the majority of the fire just after 10 PM.
During the final stages of extinguishment and overhaul firefighters discovered a second deceased victim inside the home. Are you a member of the fire service?
