Third-Alarm San Jose Fire Destroys Home

On August 26, 2010 at 5:22 AM, units of the San Jose Fire Department, under the direction of Battalion Chiefs Juan Diaz and Colleen Mulholand, responded to a report of an explosion and smoke in a two-story single family dwelling at 910 Del Monte Place in west San Jose.

Firefighters discovered fire going throughout the home upon their arrival requiring defensive operations to protect adjacent homes. As additional alarms were struck it was discovered that a natural gas line had ruptured forcing all personnel to maintain a safe distance from the fire building until utility crews were able to respond and secure the leak.

Unfortunately the home was a complete loss and numerous pets died in the fire. Their were no injuries reported to either the homeowner or firefighters.
