Large Outside Fire Strikes Gilroy Electronics Recycler
On Saturday, April 23, 2016, at 1611 hours, the Gilroy Fire Department responded to the area of 6200 Engle Way on the city’s south side to conduct a smoke investigation.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire spreading in an outdoor area used to store electronic materials destined for recycling. Crews worked quickly to establish a defensive operation in an effort to prevent the blaze from spreading to the commercial structures directly threatened.
The incident grew to three-alarms as Gilroy Firefighters worked side-by-side with crews from Morgan Hill, Hollister, San José and Santa Clara County. Firefighters were successful in preventing the fire from spreading to the interior of any structures and the majority of damage was limited to the stored recyclables.
