Four-Alarm Blaze Damages San José Storage Facility
On Saturday, August 27, 2016, at 2106 hours, San José Fire Fighters responded to a report of smoke seen from a self-storage facility located at 925 Felipe Avenue adjacent to the Interstate 680 and Highway 101 interchange.
The first company to arrive discovered a working fire in at least one ground-level unit at the Public Storage facility with fire extending to the second-floor. Crews set about opening up numerous units to gain access to the fire, but faced difficult conditions with zero-visibility and extremely heavy fire load.
Fire extinguishment and extensive overhaul kept over 70 firefighters busy well into the early morning hours Sunday. One firefighter suffered a minor injury, but no civilians were injured.
