Firefighters battle East San José house blaze

On Thursday, October 9, 2014, at 10:38 AM, units of the San José Fire Department responded to 919 Gerard Way after receiving multiple 9-1-1 calls from citizens reporting a house fire.

The first company to arrive was confronted with a well-involved garage blaze with fire extending into the attic of the main portion of the home. Access was hampered by live electrical lines on the ground along the D-side of the single story structure.

Firefighters quickly stretched multiple attack lines into place and worked to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent homes. The fire was knocked down at 11:24 AM.

One occupant was at home and was alerted to the garage fire by his neighbors. The man was able to escape with his five dogs and one turtle.
