San Jose Firefighters conduct swift water rescue

On Thursday, March 24, 2011 units of the San Jose Fire Department responded to a stretch of the rain swollen Guadalupe River near the San Jose International Airport for a report of a subject trapped in the fast moving water.

Firefighters with San Jose's Urban Search and Rescue Task Force worked quickly to deploy two inflatable rescue boats needed to reach the victim. Once launched, the first boat made contact with a man clinging to wood debris lodged in a tree.

While firefighters conducted an assessment of the victim's medical condition the team set to work determining the best strategy to rescue the man from his precarious position. Rescuers were able to pull the victim to safety and bring him to shore where paramedics were waiting to assess and transport the patient to a local hospital.

Thanks to the work of first responders the man escaped injury and was released from the hospital shortly after being brought in.
