Popular San José restaurant gutted by four-alarm blaze
On Saturday, January 18, 2013, at 0623 hours, firefighters at San José Fire Station 9 were alerted to a blaze at the Flames Coffee Shop located across the street from the firehouse.
Upon exiting the station’s apparatus bay the officer of Engine 9 reported heavy pressurized smoke showing from the roof of the structure. A second-alarm was immediately struck and a defensive strategy was established.
As additional units arrived on scene, Incident Commander Jeff Welch (Battalion 13) oversaw the deployment of four aerial master streams and several attack lines. Third and fourth-alarms were struck as crews worked to contain the fire to the restaurant.
The fire was under control by 0810 hours with no injuries reported. Unfortunately the restaurant was destroyed by the fire.
