Isabel Valley prescribed burn achieves critical environmental goals

Firefighters from several South Bay fire departments gathered in the hills east of San José on Wednesday, March 19 to conduct an early season prescribed burn. The project was carried out on property belonging to the Isabel Valley Ranch in a cooperative effort to achieve various environmental goals.

In addition to the ecological benefits, firefighters were also able to hone their skills in several disciplines including the operation of ignition devices and furthering their understanding of wildland fire behavior. Participating agencies, led by CAL FIRE, included the Santa Clara County Fire Department, San José Fire Department and Spring Valley Volunteer Fire Department.
