Backyard Shed, Garage and Converted Garage Burn in San José

On Saturday, July 23, 2016, at 1137 hours, San José Firefighters on-viewed a column of smoke in the area of McKee Road and North King Road. The crew of Truck 2 located a working fire to the rear of 113 Melrose Avenue and requested a full first alarm response.

As additional crews arrived on scene fire attack was initiated preventing the blaze from spreading to nearby homes. Unfortunately a garage converted into living space was damaged leaving five people homeless. The Red Cross of Silicon Valley was contacted to assist the displaced.

No injuries were reported and the fire was largely under control within 30-minutes.
