Vacant Alviso home destroyed by fire

On Sunday, December 1, 2013, at 1354 hours, the San José Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire at 1548 Michigan Avenue in Alviso. Firefighters from Station 25 located just blocks away advised of a visible column of smoke showing from the firehouse.

Upon arrival first due Engine 25 confirmed a working blaze in an abandoned single family dwelling with heavy fire showing from at least two sides of the home. Firefighters were able to locate and knockdown the seat of the fire while contending with downed live electrical lines in front of the structure.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the affected structure while preventing the spread of flames to adjacent homes. No injuries were reported.
