Sunnyvale apartment building destroyed by fire
On Thursday, October 3, 2013 just after 3:00 PM, units of the Sunnyvale Fire Department responded to the 200 block of North Murphy Avenue for a report of smoke and flames seen from a second story apartment in a 12-unit building at the Sunnyvale Town Center Apartments.
Upon their arrival firefighters discovered a working fire that appeared to involve mainly a balcony and a portion of an apartment interior. As crews worked to contain the blaze it became clear that the fire had extended to the structure's attic prompting the incident commander to strike a second and third alarms.
Firefighters were forced to transition from an offensive to a defensive strategy as the fire spread quickly throughout the attic space leading to a collapse of the roof. There were no injuries reported and residents requiring emergency housing were being assisted by the Red Cross. Are you a member of the fire service?
