Hazardous material spill prompts major emergency response

On Thursday, February 22, 2007 firefighters from the San José Fire Department and the Santa Clara County Fire Department responded to Maxim Integrated Products at 3725 North First Street to investigate a report of chemicals leaking from a drum inside a semi truck trailer located at the rear of the business.

Hazardous materials teams from both agencies worked together to determine the type of chemical spilled and the most effective means of containing the substance. Workers in neighboring business were asked to shelter in place while crews rendered the situation safe.

A private environmental clean-up crew was eventually called in to complete the operation with no injuries reported.
