Five-Alarm Fire Destroys Portion of Santa Clara Strip Mall
On Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at 0247 hours the City of Santa Clara Fire Department responded to a report of a commercial structure fire at the Rancho Shopping Center located at 3402 El Camino Real.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire showing from a one-story strip mall. The blaze quickly spread forcing crews to transition to a defensive strategy with aerial master streams and numerous hand lines being deployed.
As the fire raced through the structure’s common attic, multiple businesses were destroyed, with much of the roof collapsing.
Mutual aid companies from Santa Clara County Fire, San José Fire and Sunnyvale Fire were summoned as the incident grew to five-alarms.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation. Are you a member of the fire service?
