San Jose home destroyed by blaze
On Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 5:04 AM units of the San Jose Fire Department responded to a structure fire in a one-story, single family dwelling in the 900 block of Rockdale Drive on the city's west side.
Engine and Truck Company 14 arrived on scene to discover a home fully engulfed with fire through the roof and neighboring homes threatened. A second-alarm was called summoning additional resources to the scene to assist with fire attack and exposure protection.
The three occupants of the home were asleep at the time the fire broke out, but were awakened when the family dog began barking. Attempts to extinguish a garage fire failed when flames extended into the home and spread rapidly throughout the structure. Everyone was able to escape the burning house on their own.
Firefighters were able to successfully extinguish fire that broke out on the roof of at least one neighboring home while working to contain the original blaze. Unfortunately the home and at least one vehicle were a total loss. Are you a member of the fire service?
