On Monday, May 23, 2011 just after 8:30 AM, units of the Santa Clara County Fire Department responded to reports of a garage fire in the 800 block of Rose Blossom Drive in the city of Cupertino. Upon their arrival firefighters were confronted with heavy smoke and fire showing from a one-story single family dwelling.
Firefighters immediately set about confirming that no one remained inside the burning home while establishing fire attack and exposure protection for adjacent homes. With much of the home already engulfed in flames firefighters worked to contain the blaze to the original fire structure, but at least two small fires ignited on nearby rooftops from flying embers. Both of those spot fires were quickly extinguished.
Unfortunately the fire destroyed a majority of the home, but there were no reported injuries to civilians. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries.
