Fire leaves 13 San José residents homeless
On Monday, July 25, 2011 at approximately 11:30 AM, the San José Fire Department responded to a report of a possible basement fire in a residential structure at 1189 West San Carlos Street in the city's Midtown neighborhood.
Responding firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke issuing from a single story dwelling that had been subdivided into several small studio size apartments. Within minutes a second alarm was struck as flames began to penetrate and travel the structure's balloon frame construction.
Fortunately firefighters were able to successfully extinguish the bulk of the fire before it spread throughout the remainder of the building. At least two residents were treated on the scene and taken to a local hospital for unknown injuries. No members of the San José Fire Department were injured. Are you a member of the fire service?
