On December 20, 2013 CAL FIRE Fire Captain Pete Santana passed away at the age of 64 after a nearly two year courageous battle with job-related cancer.
Pete, a Vietnam era US Army veteran and a native of New York City, went to work for Gilroy Rural FPD in 1972, promoting to captain five years later. He joined CAL FIRE in 1980 after a district merger with South Santa Clara Co. FPD. He served as
administrative captain for the growing district, managing a budget and backing up as chief officer.
In 1993, he transferred to Patterson, where he received a Superior Accomplishment Award from CAL FIRE for his pivotal role on a statewide Development and Design Committee for a new, state of the art, all-risk fire engine. He retired in 2005.
He is survived by his wife Nancy and his children, son Michael and daughter Danielle. All images are available for immediate download.
