Two-alarm apartment fire leaves 12 homeless
The alarm was sounded at 6:56 PM for a structure fire at 1545 Scott Street in San Jose's Burbank district. Callers reported seeing heavy smoke and fire coming from the windows of a second floor apartment building. San José Fire Department Engine 4 reported smoke showing while responding to the scene prompting a full first alarm assignment.
The first unit on scene confirmed a working fire leading to a precautionary second-alarm. Firefighters under the direction of Battalion Chiefs Mike Ayala and Paul Schuller were able to limit damage to the building through their aggressive attack on the fire.
Although firefighters were able to keep the fire from consuming the entire building, 12 residents were displaced, requiring assistance from the local chapter of the Red Cross. There were no injuries reported.Units responding included:
