Two-Alarm blaze damages San José market

On Friday, October 3, 2014, at 11:11 PM, units of the San José Fire Department responded to a report of smoke inside the Senter Food at 3975 Senter Road in South San José.

First due Engine Company 18 arrived on scene and confirmed heavy smoke inside a large grocery store in a strip mall. A precautionary second-alarm was struck summoning additional resources to the scene.

Firefighters entered the structure to locate and extinguish the fire, but poor visibility hampered their efforts. After searching large portions of the interior the fire was located and knocked down. Sprinklers were able to hold the fire in check until firefighters finished the job.

Smoke and water caused serious damage to the store’s stock. No injuries were reported and the incident was declared under control at 12:39 AM.
