Fire Breaks Out at San José Recycling Facility

On Monday, July 11, 2016, at 0406 hours, San José Firefighters responded to reports of an outside fire at Valley Services, a recycling business located at 1615 South 7th Street.

The crew of Engine 3 arrived on scene to find a fire working in a large trash pile bounded by cinderblock on two sides. Firefighters began the arduous process of establishing a water supply requiring an extended hose lay of several hundred feet.

As additional units arrived the fire was attacked using two master streams and one 2 1/2” hand line. An excavator was used to break up the pile while water was applied during extinguishment.
