Two-Alarm Apartment Fire Injures One, Leaves 11 Homeless in San José
On Saturday, February 13, 2016, at 0524 hours, the San José Fire Department responded to reports of a possible structure fire at 600 South 9th Street near San José State University.
Firefighters arrived to find light smoke showing from the second story of a multiple occupancy Victorian structure. As crews initiated their investigation they discovered a working fire in an upstairs apartment with flames extending to the attic of the structure.
During a search of the building one occupant was located and rescued from the burning building with severe burns. The patient was treated and transported to a nearby hospital.
Crews were able to quickly contain the fire and bring the incident under control at 0644 hours. The fire left 11 residents homeless.
