San José Firefighters Douse Vegetation Fire Burning Along I-280 and Highway 87

On Thursday, August 18, 2015, at 1255 hours, San José Firefighters responded to reports of a possible structure fire in the area of Minor Avenue in the Gardner neighborhood south of downtown .

Crews arriving in the area quickly located a fire spreading in grass and brush on the side of the southbound Interstate 280 connector to southbound Highway 87. Firefighters confirmed that no structures were involved as they worked to stop the spread of flames along the roadway.

While the fire consumed vegetation it spread to a wood sound wall separating the connector ramp from homes and apartments along Spencer Avenue. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire after dismantling portions of the sound wall.
