Children Seriously Burned, Neighbors Injured in San José Apartment Fire

On Thursday, June 25, 2015, at 0805 hours, units of the San José Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire at 1991 Story Road in east San José. Firefighters arrived to find a working kitchen fire in an upstairs unit of a two-story apartment building with multiple patients requiring medical attention.

Of the three occupants of the apartment, two children received serious burns and other injuries associated with jumping from a second floor window to escape heavy, choking smoke. Two neighbors forced their way into the apartment and helped the mother of the children to escape while attempting to extinguish the fire. Both Good Samaritans were treated for minor injuries.

Firefighters worked quickly to assess and imitate treatment on the burn victims, both of which were transported to Valley Medical Center.
