Two-alarm fire damages San José apartment
Units from the San José Fire Department responded to multiple reports of fire from the second floor of an apartment building at 1092 Topaz Avenue at 3:55 pm on December 16, 2005.
A full first alarm was dispatched to the scene with a second alarm called at approximately 4:03 pm by the incident commander. Upon their arrival, firefighters found a rear upstairs unit heavily involved with flames and smoke showing from the windows.
The priority for firefighters was to assure that the building was clear of all civilians and to prevent the fire from penetrating and running the attic space.
Due to fire, smoke and water damage, 11 adults and seven children were displaced. The Red Cross was contacted to assist families in securing lodging. Are you a member of the fire service?
