Firefighters injured fighting house blaze
On Sunday, April 15, 2007 at 5:11 PM, the San José Fire Department responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls advising of a structure fire in a two-story home located at 1554 Trieste Way in the Kennedy neighborhood adjacent to Kelly Park.
While en route firefighters could see a column of smoke prompting a request for a full first alarm assignment to respond to the fire. Upon arrival crews set about establishing interior operations, including a search of the burning home for anyone possibly trapped by the smoke and flames.
During their search of the second floor firefighters were struck by heavy roof tiles as they collapsed into the home's interior. All three injured firefighters received injuries requiring a doctor's care, but were later released from a local hospital.
Firefighters were able to gain control of the fire after an hour of intense work. Unfortunately the blaze destroyed the home. Are you a member of the fire service?
