Fire sweeps San José home killing one

On Thursday, October 8, 2010 at approximately 2:00 AM, units of the San José Fire Department were alerted to a structure fire in a two-story home at 754 North White Road in the Alum Rock area of the city.

Upon arrival firefighters discovered fire blowing from windows on all four sides of the home with two people at the front of the home using garden houses in an effort to extinguish the blaze.

Due to the intensity of the heat and smoke firefighters were forced to attack the fire from the exterior with hand lines and an aerial master stream from Truck 16.

Unfortunately one of the residents of the home perished during the fire. At least one other resident was transported to an area hospital for smoke inhalation.
