Firefighters prepare for busy wildfire season
Firefighters from agencies throughout the South Bay gathered in Los Gatos from June 18-20 to participate in a three-day wildland fire training exercise coordinated by the Santa Clara County Fire Chiefs Association.
The annual training is designed to simulate a large scale wildfire incident requiring interagency cooperation and coordination. Participating fire departments included CAL FIRE, Santa Clara County Fire, San José Fire, City of Santa Clara Fire, Palo Alto Fire, Sunnyvale Fire, Mountain View Fire, and Gilroy Fire.
Fire crews were able to practice in scenarios requiring progressive hose lays, structure protection, use of hand tools, and fire shelter deployment. Other facets of the exercise included strike team deployment, mutual aid communications, and safety procedures.Do you currently, or have you worked, for a fire department?
