Firefighters Prepare for Busy Wildland Fire Season
Firefighters gathered at West Valley College each morning for three days during the first week of July as they honed their wildland firefighting skills in preparation for what promises to be one of the busiest fire seasons on record.
Participating agencies included members from the Palo Alto Fire Department, Santa Clara County Fire Department, Milpitas Fire Department, CAL FIRE, San José Fire Department, South Santa Clara County Fire District, Mountain View Fire Department, Sunnyvale DPS, Gilroy Fire Department, Spring Valley Fire Department and the City of Santa Clara Fire Department.
Firefighters practiced progressive hose lays, structure defense, cutting fire line, and building a better understanding of wildland firefighting strategies and tactics through the use of sandbox simulations. Various scenarios took place inside Sanborn County Park and along Pierce Road. Are you a member of the fire service?
