New Year’s Day Blaze Does Major Damage to San José Home

On Friday, January 1, 2015, at 0851 hours, San José Firefighters responded to a working residential structure fire at 571 West Virginia Street. Upon arrival the first crew reported heavy black smoke and fire showing from a small single-story home.

Firefighters quickly confirmed the structure was unoccupied while initiating fire attack. The bulk of the fire was knocked down within minutes and crews were able to prevent flames from spreading to adjacent homes.

One firefighter suffered minor burns and was treated at a local hospital and released. The Red Cross Silicon Valley responded to assist several displaced residents.
