San José apartment fire goes to four alarms
On Sunday, July 22, 2012 at 9:07 PM, units of the San José Fire Department responded to multiple reports of a fire in the Del Coronado Apartments located at 5255 Camden Avenue.
Fire appeared to have broken out in one upstairs unit in the two-story apartment building. While en route, San José Engine 17 reported a large column of smoke showing and requested a second-alarm be started due to the size of the apartment complex. Upon arrival firefighters confirmed a working fire with flames and heavy smoke showing from both the front and back of the apartment.
Firefighters worked quickly to evacuate the entire building and confirm that no one remained in any of the apartments. Five residents required medical attention including one tenant with minor burns and two individuals that complained of chest pain.
The fire was mostly contained to the unit of origin with some additional damage to a neighboring apartment. By the time the fire was declared under control over 70 firefighters had responded to the scene, including units from Santa Clara County Fire and the City of Santa Clara Fire Department.
The cause of the fire appears to have been accidental. Are you a member of the fire service?
