Two-alarm fire destroys Campbell fourplex

On Sunday, March 14, 2010 at 1:02 PM, units of the Santa Clara County Fire Department responded to multiple reports of smoke and fire in a two-story, multiple family dwelling at 778 Sharmon Palms Lane in Campbell, California.

Upon their arrival firefighters discovered heavy fire and smoke conditions on both floors of the structure prompting the incident commander to call for a second alarm. Initial reports suggested that there may have been residents trapped by the flames, but all occupants had escaped and were quickly accounted for.

With multiple hand lines stretched and placed into operation crews were able to knock down the bulk of the fire within 45-minutes while successfully protecting adjacent exposures.

The fire, apparently the result of a cooking mishap that occurred in a first-floor unit of the building, left the entire structure a complete loss. Four families were burnt out of their homes and at least one occupant suffered minor burns, but did not require hospitalization.
