Multi-Alarm Commercial Structure Fire Destroys Santa Clara Businesses
On Wednesday, August 26, 2015, just before 4:00 p.m., units of the City of Santa Clara Fire Department responded to multiple reports of explosions heard in the area of 2055 White Oak Lane. Additional callers reported a fire in a one-story, multi-unit, strip-mall housing several businesses including a laundromat, lounge and liquor store.
Firefighters arrived to find a well-involved structure fire fed by a ruptured gas line on the exterior of an end-unit laundromat. The blaze advanced horizontally via the attic space while burning through the roof. Crews transitioned to a defensive strategy as the roof began to collapse.
It was quickly determined that a driver in an adjacent parking lot struck and ruptured the gas line sparking the multi-alarm fire. The driver fled the scene and was being sought by police.
Mutual aid was requested summing firefighters from the Santa Clara County Fire Department and the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.
There were two minor injuries reported including one firefighter that was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The strip-mall was a complete loss. Are you a member of the fire service?
